Break-Even Calculator

Find how many units you need to sell to cover your costs, and estimate the sales required to reach a target profit.

Your business costs

Use the same currency for every amount.

Costs that do not change with each unit sold.

Materials, packaging, commissions, or other per-unit costs.

Optional profit goal, in the same currency.

Break-even sales volume

84 units

Whole units required to cover fixed costs.

Break-even details

Break-even revenue$8,400.00
Contribution per unit$60.00
Contribution margin60.00%
Profit at rounded break-even$40.00

Target profit goal

Units to sell134 units
Required revenue$13,400.00

This is a simplified model. It assumes a constant selling price and variable cost per unit, and excludes taxes and other factors unless you include them in your costs.

How break-even is calculated

Contribution per unit = Selling price − Variable cost

Break-even units = Fixed costs ÷ Contribution per unit, rounded up

Break-even revenue = Break-even units × Selling price

Target-profit units = (Fixed costs + Target profit) ÷ Contribution per unit, rounded up

The contribution margin is the portion of each sale remaining after variable costs to cover fixed costs and then generate profit.
